Anodising is an electrolytic process applied to aluminium alloys to increase the thickness of the natural oxide layer and thereby increasing the resistance to wear and corrosion.

Anodised aluminium is a harder surface than aluminium and its wear properties improve with thicker layers, but due to increasing porosity the surface corrosion resistance requires a sealing process.

Anodising can also be for cosmetic appearance by absorbing coloured dyes into the porous surface prior to sealing.

Expert Developments offer both Sulphuric acid Anodising and Hard Anodising.

A range of colours/dyes is available, including natural, black, red, blue, gold and green.

Chromate Conversion Coating of Aluminium components

This immersion, non-electrolytic process is used as a corrosion inhibitor, paint primer, decorative finish and also to retain electrical conductivity.

The specifications often called up are DEF Stan 03-18 and MIL-C-5541 Class 1 (Alocrom 1200) and MIL-C-5541 Class 3 (Alocrom 1000) both of which we provide and certify.

RoHS and WEEE compliant coatings are readily available, as indicated below:
